So-tennenAroma Life

What are natural aromas?

100% natural essential oils, which are extracted from plants and distilled in water. The scientific name and place of origin, in addition to the site of extraction, extraction method and expiration date are written in detail for each aroma.

So-tennenAroma Preferences

So-nennon aromas are made only from materials that originate from Yamagata Prefecture and are distilled with natural water without the use of tap water.
Distilled essential oils and aromatherapy water (distilled water) is carefully analyzed and inspected for chemical composition.

Distilled in the district of Nakasawaguchi, Oe-cho

  • Materials

We only use materials derived from forest maintenance such as thinning.
Instead of harvesting from the forest directly, we use only what can be gained incidentally or from materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
In an effort to protect the forest, we harvest only what is necessary and sustainable.

  • Distillation

We carefully consider the distillation method for each tree species to prevent material contamination even in trace amounts.
Currently we are using 2 units for producing Japanese lindera (kuro-moji) aroma and 3 units for magnolia salicifolia (Tam Shiva) aroma.
We use natural water for distillation.

  • Chippings (crushed wood)

We use wood griding equipment to finely produce the raw materials for making aromas.
This prevents the contamination of specimens. Currently, two units are up and running.

  • Natural Water

We use only natural water in the distillation of our aromas. The waters of Oe-cho's Nakasawaguchi district have long been know by its residents for their life-prolonging qualities.
This legendary water originates from the foot of a famous shrine in Oe-cho.
Residents drink this water to become healthy and strong.

Recommendation from Maki Ohashi,
aroma therapist and aroma field advisor for So-tennen.

In Oe-cho, we enjoy the uniqe lifestyle and way of living close to nature and with the various qualities of four distict seasons.
The local people of Oe-cho are full of wisdom and share their knowledge of living closely and connected to the forest with all who will hear.
If you walk through the forest with a local guide, you will become full of new energy.
